Today, New Oriental announced the launch of the "Xueersi 830 Plan." Xueersi's national branch courses will end before 8:30 p.m. and will be fully implemented starting in July.
In addition, Xueersi will adjust the class hours, reduce offline teaching hours, and shift some content and disciplines to online teaching.
At the same time, Xueersi stated: "Do not participate in competitions that have not been approved by the education authorities, strictly adhere to the various systems of the superior authorities, avoid 'beyond the syllabus' and 'advanced', and use technology to reduce the burden of education in the new era."
Adjusting class time: All courses end before 8:30 p.m.
Before the adjustment, in the Xueersi 3-lesson plan, the course's end time was 21:05; after the adjustment, the end time was 20:30. Before the adjustment, in the 3.5-lesson plan, the course's end time was 21:00; after the adjustment, the end time was 20:30.

Starting from the summer of 2018, the latest end time for courses is 8:30 p.m. Xueersi Beijing School has announced: "Recently, the municipal education committee, industry and commerce, human resources, and civil affairs jointly formulated the 'one standard and two methods,' which explicitly states in the arrangement of course time, that teaching progress should be reasonably arranged, and should not hinder minors' normal rest. It is suggested that the teaching time should not be later than 8:30 p.m. In response to the government's call, the Beijing branch has henceforth changed the class time for Chinese, mathematics, and English of grades three to six, starting from the summer of 2018."
It is understood that before the launch of the "Xueersi 830 Plan," the Xueersi Shanghai branch had already made adjustments to the course duration, teaching content, and more. Among the training institutions in Shanghai, it is the earliest to adjust the teaching time to 8:30 p.m.
Adjusting class duration: shifting some content to online teaching
Xueersi has also made adjustments to class duration.
Starting from July 2018, the teaching time for Chinese, mathematics, and English subjects of grades three to six in the "Excellent System Curriculum" will be adjusted from 2 hours 35 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes. At the same time, the duration of Xueersi's online courses will be increased from the original 45 minutes to 60 minutes.
Compared to offline courses, online courses take far less time due to the elimination of travel time. In addition, the hourly fee for online courses is about 1/3 to 1/2 of that for offline courses.
Using the same 2-hour class as an example:

Comparison of time and cost between online and offline courses This is not the first time Xueersi has adjusted teaching hours. Two years ago, during the reform of the new college entrance examination, Xueersi had already reduced the original 3-hour offline courses to 2.5 hours, and the original 2-hour courses to 100 minutes, while adding some online content.
In addition, Xueersi has integrated AI technology (speech recognition, image recognition), big data, and more into educational reform. For example, through technologies like "Magic Mirror" and "IPS Project," personalized assignments can be assigned to reduce students' homework time and improve teaching efficiency.
Previously, at the beginning of the year, at the 2018 annual meeting of TAL Education Group, Founder and CEO Zhang Bangxin proposed the group's goal of "using technology to promote the reduction of educational burden in the new era." This would be achieved by precise tutoring through the internet, big data, artificial intelligence, and other technologies, reducing students' study time and costs, and improving learning efficiency while also reducing study expenses.
